Malay School System

Education is a very important aspect of any person’s life. In Malaysia, that holds very true. And here is a preview of how education goes in the country:

Children aged three to six would go to a kindergarten school. There are public and private schools for this.

The next stage with be primary school. Primary school lasts for about six years and there are two types of primary schools: Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan (SRK) and Sekolar Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK). SRK are government-run schools and Malay is the main medium of instruction. With SJK, it depends in what school but basically it would be either Mandarin or Tamil. To move on to Secondary Education, kids will have to pass a Primary School Achievement Test or an Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah, UPSR.

For five years, kids will go through secondary education and Malay will be the main medium of instruction for most schools. There are two major examinations for students nationwide: Lower Secondary Assessment or Penilaian Menengah Rendah and Malaysian Certificate of Education or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, SPM. It said that the SPM is more comprehensive than the SATs from US Schools.

University education, though, is optional. In fact, there are about just 20 universities in the country right now.

Math in Malaysia

For the past years, Math was taught in the English language. But just recently, it was decided that starting 2012, math would be taught in Bahasa Malaysia. Naturally, a lot of people disapproved of this but the mandate has been passed.

Because of this, a lot of parents are considering finding other external math classes for their kids. And some parents have actually enrolled their kids in schools for Chinese because they have a better math curriculum.

But of course, that wouldn’t always be an option for everybody. So if you want to provide your kids with the best education, specifically in math, you should look for mental arithmetic classes for children in Malaysia.

When you enrol your kids in a mental arithmetic class for children, you will be giving them something that not all kids are given. It is a given that math plays a big role in our everyday lives- giving them the best education will make it easier for them.
